Interviewing Reminders

Effective interviewing is to the benefit of both the client and the candidate.

Preparation – It is critical to the success of the interview. Do your research on the company and develop relevant questions based on the company and your perceived role in it. Think about how you can highlight your strengths in ways that are pertinent to the position. Study your CV, not knowing exactly what you have written will be perceived badly. When prepared, you will come across as confident and direct, both are traits of an effective leader.

Setting the tone – Help to set the tone by speaking slowly and concisely. Open up communication by asking for clarification when needed. In addition, show that you have been effectively listening by recapping essential parts of the interview. Keep answers brief and to the point; avoid rambling. When you have finished speaking, ask yourself if you have thoroughly answered the question asked of you.

Summarize – Summarize your strengths incorporating relevant knowledge, learned during the interview, regarding the role and company goals. Ask if the interviewer feels that you are a fit and address any concerns they may have. If you want the job and feel you are a fit, say so.

Follow Up – Thank the interviewer and remember to follow up with a thank you letter. Contact the recruiter after the interview to discuss feedback.

CV Insights

In today’s competitive job market, it is more important than ever to make a good first impression. Your CV is often the best way to articulate and capture your professional value. There are great tips on the internet regarding how to create an excellent CV, as well as pitfalls to avoid. After you have put together your best efforts, consider the following somewhat common mistakes:

  • Do not use abbreviations. An employer doesn’t want to take the additional time to decode what you are all about. Furthermore, they will doubt your ability to communicate effectively.
  • Avoid negativity. Although honesty is necessary, use this first encounter to highlight the positive attributes that you have to offer. Focus on your achievements.
  • Do not include irrelevant information regarding your age, creed, gender, marital status or race. Stay with facts that are concise and pertinent. Let the employer base their opinion on your talents and skill set.
  • Do not forget what is on your CV. The quickest way to create doubt in an employer is to hesitate or refer inaccurately regarding the CV that you have submitted.
